Moving
Temporary No Parking Signs are issued to residents and businesses for the purpose of reserving on-street parking spaces, when off-street parking or loading spaces are not large enough. For more information about purchasing Temporary No Parking Signs, click here.
If you would like to purchase signs, come to City Hall no less than two business days in advance of the move. Bring proof of residency in the form of a current utility, phone, credit card bill, bank statement or lease document with your name and current Santa Monica residential address. If you would like to use metered parking spaces, bring the meter numbers with you when you come to City Hall. Once you purchase signs, they will need to be posted a minimum of 24 hours in advance per the guidelines found here.
In addition to Temporary No Parking Signs, an Oversize Load Permit is required for large vehicles (as defined below). These permits must be completed and signed for by a representative of the company that operates the vehicle. If you are working with a moving company, please advise them that an Oversize Load Permit may be required. Click here to download an Oversize Load Permit application.
Oversize Load Permits are required when:
- The total outside width of any vehicle or its load exceeds 8 feet 6 inches (102”), or
- The height of any vehicle or its load exceeds 14 feet, or
- The length of any single vehicle or its load exceeds 40 feet, except as specified in CVC 35400(b) or the length of a combination vehicle or its load exceeds 65 feet, or
- The maximum gross weight is over 80,000 pounds, the single axle weight is over 20,000 pounds, or the tandem axle weight is over 34,000 pounds.
