Pico Boulevard runs the length of Santa Monica, from the Ocean to Centinela
on the City's eastern border. Three and a half
miles long, it is also very diverse, with offerings
ranging from high-end hotels on the beach, to the
coffeehouses, world class restaurants, art
galleries, sewing centers, and other
interesting venues of the East Pico Village.
Its the home of the mom and pop shops, auto repair,
and neighborhood service businesses. Originally the
demarcation between two Spanish land grants, it
underwent a $7 1/2 million streetscape program in
1999. A Business Improvement District,
administered by the Pico Improvement Organization,
is working on parking issues, business improvement,
neighbor relations, and promoting the businesses on
Pico to the neighboring community.
