The most unique day camp experience
for girls in Santa Monica!

Rosie's Girls Santa Monica is based on a national program designed to build self-esteem, leadership and physical confidence in middle school girls through an exploration of trades and non-traditional activities.  During the one-week spring and three-week summer day camps, girls learn and apply skills in carpentry, welding, and other technical trades.  Our award-winning curriculum (California Park & Recreation Society "Best of the Best" Award winner) also includes creative expression (mask-making, furniture design & journal writing), physical challenges (surfing, kayaking & ropes course) and other unique experiences (role-playing as City Council members at City Hall & self-defense with the Santa Monica Police Department's D-Tac Team)!  Girls develop critical thinking skills as they explore issues such as gender roles, body image, and social pressure.

Rosie's Girls Summer Camp 2006 Session I Group

Rosie’s Girls is a national program designed to build self-esteem, leadership, and physical confidence through an exploration of
non-traditional activities. During a three-week intensive summer camp, girls go “behind the scenes” and experience what it takes to maintain a city as they learn and apply skills in carpentry, welding, firefighting, tree trimming and other trades. The curriculum includes creative expression such as mask making, journal writing, and graphic design. Participants engage in fun physical challenges such as sailing, kayaking, self-defense, a ropes course and more. Girls develop critical thinking and leadership skills as they explore issues such as gender roles, body image and social pressure. They also participate in a community service project.

Why Trades?

Whether in a shop or applied to "real world" projects, trades activities offer an unusual and especially powerful vehicle for girls to develop a broader sense of themselves and their capabilities.  Trades activities challenge girls to learn self-reliance, expand their math and science skills,  develop new areas of physical confidence,  expand the range of careers they might envision for themselves, and push past preconceived limitations.
