April 9, 2008 CONTACT: Karen Ginsberg, Assistant Director, Community & Cultural Services, 310-458-8310 Santa Monica--The City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District invites you to attend a community workshop on Saturday, April 12, to learn about current plans for the High School and Civic Auditorium campuses and raise your questions on possible joint cultural and recreational uses. The City’s Civic Center Specific Plan (2002) and Creative Capital Cultural Master Plan (2007), as well as the School District’s Draft Facilities Master Plan (2007), recommend exploring opportunities for recreational and cultural joint uses on the adjacent Civic Auditorium and SAMOHI Campuses. The Specific Plan sets for a vision for the area surrounding City Hall and the Civic Auditorium as a major social and cultural center of the city. Creative Capital takes stock of the cultural scene and economy in Santa Monica, and sets a path for the future. The Draft Facilities Master Plan provides a 20-year blueprint for facility improvements throughout the School District. The plans can be found online at civiccenter.smgov.net. On April 12, participants may park at the Civic Auditorium parking lot and take a self-guided tour of the two campuses. At each spot on the seven stop tour, people will be asked to consider connections between parking and circulation, cultural opportunities, and activities and amenities. The tour will begin at 10:00 a.m. Starting at noon at the SAMOHI cafeteria, the project team will present information on the joint use study, followed by a Q & A session. A summary of the workshop will be posted online at civiccenter.smgov.net shortly after the workshop, and a report on this study will be presented to the City Council and School Board in July 2008. # # # |
