The Santa Monica Public Library Presents Green Parenting @ the Library

Santa Monica, California — Santa Monica Public Library presents Green Parenting @ the Library, a two-part series focused on helping parents make safe, informed decisions about household products and connect with local resources.  The Main Library will host the programs on May 29 and June 5 in the Multipurpose Room, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

The first program in the series is Toxics:  Protecting Your Children and Home, on Thursday, May 29.  How chemical manufacturers want you to think when dealing with pests, household cleaning, or maintenance is not necessarily in your best interest.  Learn to manage household chemical purchasing, use, and learn simple steps in evaluating products and services for your home.   Panelists Karl Bruskotter and Andrew Basmajian, both fathers of young children, bring decades of experience working for the City of Santa Monica’s Environmental Programs Division.

The second program is Local Resources for Green Parents on Thursday, June 5.   Learn about resources to help your family eat healthier, see more of the outdoors, and live in a healthier home.  Panelists Gay Browne, the founder of Greenopia, an organization that researches and creates directories of eco-friendly retailers and services, and the City of Santa Monica’s Green Building Program Advisor Brenden McEneaney know all of the best local resources.

This program is free and open to the public.  Seating is limited and on a first arrival basis.  For more information, call (310) 458-8600 or visit www.smpl.org.
