New Zoning Regulations for Santa Monica Automobile Dealerships

Following extensive community outreach and input from the City’s auto dealers, the Santa Monica City Council has adopted new standards that apply to proposals for new auto dealerships and dealership remodels.  The ordinance introduces incentives for automobile dealerships to invest in improving their properties both functionally and aesthetically and requires operational standards to better protect residential neighborhoods.  These interim regulations are in effect until July 2008 but may be extended past that date.

It is hoped that the new regulations will lead to neighborhood improvements along the major corridors where Santa Monica’s automobile dealerships are located, including Santa Monica Boulevard, Wilshire Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard.
